Switched

This past weekend I installed an antivirus on the desktop PC in my home office. I don’t normally use them in my own computers, since I tend to adhere to safe practices and usually I don’t do anything risky. However, I felt that since I already had a paid subscription, I might as well use it.

Immediately, the machine turned sluggish. It’s only a P-III, but the effort was noticeable. What is worse, the second time I restarted the machine, it’d not come back: a green screen of death appeared just after the Windows banner (Linux boots fine, mind you)

I cannot cope with this anymore.

It’s well past time that I stop fiddling with computers and do anything useful with them instead. I no longer have so much free time to spend on hacking and tuning, I need a working system that I can rely on. And so does me wife.

There’s a shiny iMac G5 on its way home now. Mighty mouse included.

Next step: get hold of TextMate, OmniGraffle, NetNewsWire, ComicLife and the other nifty Mac software I’ve wanted to use for a while now.
